Raider wrestlers move on
HERSHEY — Two Seneca Valley wrestlers have a shot at PIAA Class AAA wrestling titles heading into the final day Saturday at the Giant Center.
Raiders' 106-pounder Dylan Chappell and 113-pounder Alejandro Herrera-Rondon both reached the semifinals after victories Friday.
Chappell dominated Julien Maldonado of Boyertown after falling behind on an early takedown.
Chappell recovered to score nine unanswered points, including a nearfall late in the first period, and eventually earned a pin at 4:54 to advance to the semifinals.
The sophomore will face Kyle Waterman of Council Rock South with a trip in the finals on the line Saturday morning.
Herrera-Rondon, the defending state champion at 106, had a little more difficult time in his bout against Andrew Smith of Nazareth at 113 pounds.
Herrera-Rondon, also a sophomore, earned a 4-1 decision to advance to the semifinals against Karl Shingledecker of Chambersburg Saturday morning.
Mars' 160-pounder Jake Richardson is also still alive after Friday.
Richardson lost to Clayton Ulrey of Lower Dauphin by a 5-2 decision in the quarterfinals.
But he battled back, beating Connor Quinn of Owen J. Robert 11-4 to reach the consolation round of four Saturday morning.
In Class AA, Slippery Rock's Kaleb Kamerer saw his season come to an end.
The 182-pounder fell 10-2 in the quarterfinals, but won 8-5 in his consolation bout before eventually falling to Garrett McClintick of Brockway, 3-0, to exit the tournament.
