Leroy Young
Leroy K. Young, 89, of New Sewickley Township, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, while visiting in Florida.
He was born Sept. 22, 1936, to Roy and Alma (Fogel) Young in New Sewickley Township, where he resided for his entire life (which he believed was the only place to live).
Leroy was a lifetime member of St. John’s Burry’s Church. He began working in 1948, when his parents started Young’s Custard Stand. He then worked for 25 years at Teledyne Vasco Steel Mill in Monaca, while simultaneously starting Young’s Excavating and, later, Young’s Trucking and Hauling. “Digging dirt” was never more loved by anyone other than Leroy. Additionally, he and his wife, Twila, started Young’s Ceramics.
He attempted to retire in 2013, when he sold his excavating business to his nephew. However, he wasn’t done yet — so he continued “playing in the dirt” for several more years. He was often seen crossing Route 68 between his home and garages on his infamous red scooter. He loved donating his time and equipment to numerous churches, community parks, fire departments, building ball fields, helicopter landings, etc.
Leroy’s first love was his family and his closest friends (second was playing in the dirt!). He and Twila loved traveling throughout the U.S. in their motor homes. Traveling this way was his preference because he could take his beloved pets with him. They especially enjoyed attending many NASCAR races and Super Bowls. They also loved cruising, especially when it was with all of their kids or dear friends and family.
Above all, Leroy lived his life to the fullest and loved the adventures that came his way. He was all about having fun!
Leroy is survived by his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Twila (Wimer) Young; they dated in high school and built a life together that was admired by many. He said, once she saw those beautiful blue eyes of his, she was hooked for life!
He is also survived by his children, Leroy K. (Peggy) Young, of Daugherty Township, and Barbara Young, of Marion Township; his son-in-law, William A. Burr, of Jackson Township; his grandchildren, Patricia Griffie, of Pittsburgh, Michael Burr, of Jackson Township, LeighAnn (Nathan) Schultheis, of Prospect Borough, William L. Burr, of New Sewickley Township, Robert (Jackie) Burr, of Lancaster Township; his stepgrandchildren, Matt (Gina) Williamson, of Longwood, Fla., Jamie (Quita) Williamson, of Longwood, Fla., and Karen (Andrew) Millott, of Washington, Pa.; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Woodrow (Rose) Young, of New Sewickley Township.; his sisters-in-law, Geri Young, of Zelienople, Liz Wright, of Franklin Township, and Joyce (Jim) Laufer, of West Union, S.C.; many nephews, nieces and so many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah L. Burr; his brothers, Eugene (Carol) Young and Paul “Windy” Young; and his brothers-in-law, James (Eleanor) Wimer and Robert Wright.
YOUNG — Friends and family of Leroy K. Young, who died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, will be received from 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

Leroy will be laid to rest at St. John’s Burry’s Church Cemetery.
In true Leroy fashion, his love for dogs and cats was endless. Therefore, he specifically requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Beaver County Humane Society.
