Summer lineup set at Moraine
MUDDY CREEK TWP — Programs at Moraine State Park will include:
• "Family Fishing Program," 2 p.m. June 1 at former Marina restaurant located near the Davis Hollow Marina. The program will include basics on being a S.M.A.R.T. angler, as well as how to rig a fishing rod, types of bait, knot tying, rules and regulations, casting practice and some hands-on fishing. Participants are NOT required to have their fishing license while in the program. Families must be registered and should arrive promptly at 1 p.m. Call 724-368-8811.
• "Historic Oil Well Operation," 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7 and 8, July 5 and 6, Aug. 2 and 3, Sept. 6 and 7 and Oct. 4 and 5. Come and see the abandoned turn-of-the-century oil well and pumping engine that have been restored. Park staff and volunteers will operate the engine and answer questions.
• "Calming Waters," 9 a.m. June 8, 15 and 22. This entry-level kayaking program is designed to meet the needs of those more interested in an easy, peaceful experience rather than a vigorous paddle. Meet the park naturalist at the McDanel's launch area on the North Shore. The park has several kayaks to loan; to reserve a park kayak, call 724-368-8811. Participants must be at least 12.
• "Geology Drive," 10 a.m. June 14.
• "Learn to Kayak," 2 p.m. June 14, July 27 and Aug. 24.
• "Earl Shriver and his Birds of Prey," 2 p.m. June 15.
• "Bringing Back the Bluebird," 2 p.m. June 21.
• "Evening Pontoon Cruise," 7 p.m. June 21 and July 26.
• "Discover Lake Arthur," 9 a.m. July 6, 13 and 27.
• "Hide-N-Seekers" for 4- and 5-year-olds, 2 p.m. July 7 to 9.
• "Intro to Geocaching," 2 p.m. July 13.
• "Outdoor Adventurers" for 6- to 8-year-olds, 2 p.m. July 14 to 16.
• "On the Trail of the Pennsylvania Black Bear," 2 p.m. July 26.
• "Lake Arthur Regatta," Aug. 2 and 3.
• "Ecology and Management of Ruffed Grouse and American Woodcock," 1 p.m. Aug. 9.
• "Floating with Aerial Fishers," 1 and 3 p.m. Aug. 10.
• "Marina Invaders," 2 p.m. Aug. 17.
• "Explore Off Shore" kayaking experience, 9 a.m. Aug. 17, 24 and 31.
