Richard ‘Dick’ Goldinger
Richard E. “Dick” Goldinger, 84, of East Butler, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025, at his residence.
He was born April 30, 1941, in East Butler, the son of the late Ralph E. Goldinger Sr. and Marie (Stewart) Goldinger.
Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate of Butler High School, Slippery Rock College and Duquesne University, where he earned his Juris Doctorate. He began his career in education as a teacher at Clearfield Elementary School before entering private legal practice while also serving as a public defender. In 1985, he was appointed chief public defender, handling many high-profile cases. He retired from that position in 2006, and continued practicing law until his full retirement in 2021. Dick was deeply passionate about the law and dedicated his life to serving others through his profession.
He was a member of William H. Miller Lodge No. 769, American Legion Post 117 and the East Butler Volunteer Fireman’s Club. He also coached his sons’ youth baseball teams in South Butler Little League. Dick was an avid golfer, playing in the Armco Golf Club and at Butler Country Club. He enjoyed music and relaxing with a glass of wine.
Surviving are his three sons, Richard A. Goldinger, of Valencia, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Goldinger, of Saxonburg, and Mark Goldinger, of Butler; his grandchildren, Jacob Goldinger, Lucas Goldinger and Gabriella Goldinger; his companion, Christine Eakin, and her grandson, Isaac Eakin; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Cornetti; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda Cornetti; a brother, Ralph E. Goldinger Jr.; and a nephew, Gregg Goldinger.
GOLDINGER — Friends of Richard E. “Dick” Goldinger, who died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025, will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, with a Masonic service at 5:45 p.m.
There will also be visitation at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon Monday, Dec. 29, with the Rev. Dr. Laura Saffell, of Butler Global Methodist Church, officiating. Military honors will follow the service.
Private interment will be in North Butler Cemetery.
