Nine separate municipalities and agencies in Butler County will receive funding from Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Financing Authority through its Local Share Account grant, which redistributes funds from gaming revenues to support projects “in the public interest.”

In total, the Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded $1,879,925 in funds to the nine Butler County projects — an average of just over $200,000 per project. The list of grants was announced on Thursday, Dec. 18.

Chicora has received $250,000 to improve the borough’s outdated water filtration plant. Local Share Account funds will be used to upgrade the existing, outdated filtration system by installing a green sand filtration package and prereaction tanks, along with other upgrades. The improvement project will also replace outdated chemical feed equipment and install a backup generator.

Clearfield Township has received $162,290 to purchase a brand new tractor and mower, replacing their previous lawn equipment which dates back to 1980.

Evans City has received $300,000 to replace the existing culvert beneath West Main Street, which state officials say has contributed to flooding from the nearby creek in events of heavy rain and snow.

Fairview Borough has received $246,391 for upgrades to deteriorated sidewalks along Main Street. According to a news release from Rep. Tim Bonner, R-17th, this project will include the addition of ramps in compliance with the U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act.

Oakland Township has received $141,244 for the purchase of a new dump truck, which will be refitted to include a hydraulic system, toolbox, 10-foot western plow and spreader.

Saxonburg has received $150,000 toward the restoration of the historic wire rope workshop building which once belonged to the borough’s founder, John Roebling. For years, the borough has attempted to raise an estimated $250,000 to save the structure, as its foundation has slowly been sinking into the ground for nearly a decade.

Slippery Rock Borough has received $180,000 for the purchase of new public works equipment, including a new street sweeper and a new truck.

The Summit Authority, the sewer authority for Summit Township, received $250,000 for a sanitary sewer extension project. The project involves the construction of a new sewage treatment plant, pump stations, grinder pumps and miscellaneous infrastructure.

Winfield Township has received $200,000 for the purchase and upfitting of a single-axle dump truck which will mainly be used for road maintenance and snow removal.
