Barbara Vinson
Barbara Alm Vinson, 90, of Mars, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025.
She was born Jan. 9, 1935, in Minneapolis, Minn. She grew up in Bloomington, Ind., and spent many summers and winters with her family in Duluth and Two Harbors, Minn. She and husband, Carl G. Vinson Jr., wed in 1964 and spent their married life in Mentor, Ohio, where they raised their sons, and Eastlake, Ohio.
Barb loved reading and the outdoors. You would rarely find her far from a book from her earliest years. She often shared the anecdote that, as a child, she would often get a bag full of books from the library, only to return them soon after to the astonishment of the librarians. “Did you read all of those?” they'd ask. “Yes” she insisted. Throughout her life, she read everything, and fast!
Barb was a proud graduate of Indiana University, with further studies at University of Washington and University of Michigan. She was a CPA and longtime member of the American Accounting Association. She taught accounting at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and at many of the colleges in the Cleveland area: Cleveland State University, Cuyahoga Community College, Lakeland Community College, Lake Erie College, John Carroll University and University of Akron.
Survivors include sons, Jonathan “Jack” (Marci Cohen) Vinson, of Arlington, Mass., and Robert “Bob” (Monika) Vinson, of Mars; and grandchildren, Skye, Hogarth, Nora and Amelia Vinson. Along with family, she leaves many friends from her activities over the years, in particular Faith Lutheran Church and Friends of Bill.
Preceding Barb in death were her husband, Carl; and her parents, Ingvald “Inky” Alm and Genevieve (Brugger) Alm.
