Karns City girls basketball pops Cranberry on Naomi Venesky, Hannah Daily’s big nights: Roundup

Naomi Venesky’s 20 points and Hannah Dailey’s near-double-double powered Karns City to a convincing 48-35 win Wednesday night over visiting Cranberry Area.

Venesky was 5 of 7 at the foul line and made seven shots from the field. Dailey had a team-high 15 rebounds to go with her seven points.

Seneca Valley 45, North Allegheny 34 — The Raiders improved to 3-2, 1-1 in WPIAL Section 1-6A play after the road win and handed the Rams their first section loss.

Senior Natalie Hambly scored 12 points and is now 29 away from 1,000 for her career.

Union/A-C Valley 60, Clarion Area 25 — The Falcon Knights had no issues in this one as four of five starters reached double figures.

Maddy Dehart led the way with 18 points, and Raelynn Fletcher and Emma Raschiatore chipping in 16 each. Mal Fair added 10. Fair also had five rebounds and five steals, and Dehart four and four.

Boys wrestling

North Allegheny 50, Mars 20 — Samuel Passarelli and Liam Corcoran’s wins were among the highlights of the Planets’ difficult home match.

Passarelli (145) won after an injury time default, and Corcoran (189) tech-falled his opponent 21-6 in the third period. Parker Joseph (133) won a tight 9-8 decision over Myles Hoover.

Laurel 52, Knoch 23 — Brayden McGowan won by technical fall, and a handful of Knights picked up forfeit wins in this one.

Ellwood City 30, North Catholic 29 — The Trojans dropped their third dual-meet of the season. No stats were provided.

Girls wrestling

Azra Paraska (100 pounds) and 130-pounder Kaylee Christie earned Butler’s only contested bouts in a 53-24 loss to Pine-Richland.

Swimming

Seneca Valley girls beat The Ellis School 97-43 to remain undefeated this season, according to the Raiders’ social media account. No other information was available.

Freeport’s girls beat Kiski Area 90-73 and the boys lost 103-54. No individual stats were provided.

Indiana swept Butler by scores of 123-44 (girls) and 127-58 (boys). No individual stats were provided.

Bowling

Freeport and Butler split their match, with the Yellowjackets girls winning 7-0 and the Tornado boys 7-0.

Freeport anchor Hannah Windows shot a 659 series, including a game-high 232, and Kyle McConahy shot 624. Butler boys’ Daytn Kriess posted a 597, and Max Walker had a 232 high game.
