Seneca Valley boys beat North Allegheny; North’s Jason Fredericks scores 31 on Freeport: Roundup

Nico Santapau and Owen Congdon scored 13 points apiece to lead Seneca Valley boys basketball to a 51-31 victory over rival North Allegheny at William Paul Gymnasium on Tuesday.

The Raiders (3-2, 1-1 WPIAL Section 1-6A) led the Tigers 32-21 after three quarters before dropping 19 points in the final period.

Saegertown 61, Slippery Rock 50 — The Rockets were outscored 34-17 in the second half of this loss at home.

Luke Caldwell tallied 16 points for Slippery Rock. Jackson Scott (22 points) and Luke Young (16) combined to score 38 for the Panthers.

North Catholic 93, Freeport 55 — The Trojans scored 32 points in each of the first two quarters in this WPIAL Section 1-4A clash against the visiting Yellowjackets.

Jason Fredericks paced North (4-1, 1-0) with 31 points. Carson Kane scored 18 for Freeport (2-4, 1-1).

Redbank Valley 72, A-C Valley 38 — Ryan Armagost sank three 3-pointers to finish with 11 points in the Falcons’ loss, dropping them to 1-3. Ryan Sacovsek and Joe Rapp had nine and eight points, respectively.

Keystone 55, Moniteau 48 — The Warriors fell on the road despite having three players reach double figures in points — Ian Ross (16), Brendin Sankey (14) and Dawson Cook (12). They are now 2-2 this season.

Keystone’s Dom Corcetti sank 34 points to pace the Panthers.

Mars 89, Highlands 67 — Austen Wroblewski poured in a game-high 27 points in what turned into a high-scoring affair. He made both of his 3s in the fourth quarter, when he had 10 of his points.

Sam Miller sank three treys and had 15 points, and Ben Detisch added 14 points as the Planets (4-1) finished with nine from downtown and 19 of 30 from the foul line.

Troy Bielak and Ty Hall led Highlands with 24 and 20 points, respectively.

Knoch 53, Burrell 20 — A balanced scoring effort led the Knights (3-2, 2-0 Section 1-4A) as Liam Avon scored 13 points, Vinnie DeFelice 12 and Teegan Finucan 10.

Girls basketball

Lilly Holloway drained four treys, scoring a team-high 16 points in Freeport’s 62-24 non-section win at home over Riverview.

Sydney Reiser added 13 points for the Yellowjackets (4-3).

Swimming

Dom Davis won the 50-yard freestyle and 500 free in 21.07 seconds and 4:59.51, respectively, earning WPIAL qualifying times in the process. But Mars was swept by Hampton 99-81 (boys) and 114-72 (girls) in a road dual-meet.

Davis also helped the boys 200 medley relay and 400 free relay to wins. And teammate Preston Heynes won the 100 butterfly, 100 breastroke and was on the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Penelope Erin and Cora Heusey won the girls’ only races for Mars.
