Sarver Road home likely destroyed in overnight fire
BUFFALO TWP — An early morning house fire Tuesday, Dec. 15, left a family’s home deemed a likely “total loss” and sent one person to the hospital, according to an official.
Firefighters responded to 626 Sarver Road following a report of a structure fire at 1:48 a.m. They returned to the location shortly after 6:30 a.m. when the fire rekindled, Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company Chief Matt Cypher said.
Cypher said one occupant was taken to a hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
“Some personal items may be able to be saved in several rooms of the home, but ultimately, I believe it will be deemed a total loss,” he said.
Crews arrived to find the rear of the home completely engulfed and many of the house’s occupants already outside keeping warm in a vehicle.
A fire hydrant at the edge of the property allowed for quick access to water. Firefighters started their effort by running a hose to the rear and side of the house before entering the structure with a hose line.
Cypher said the cold made extinguishing the fire more difficult as hose lines kept freezing.
Crews were on the scene for about two and a half hours, according to Butler County Emergency Services dispatch reports.
Cypher said the home was an older structure with lots of material inside, which led to a rekindling of a hot spot in the rear. It was covered by debris, he said.
Because of that, crews responded again for the rekindling around 6:30 a.m. They left the property shortly before 8 a.m.
This article was updated at 11 a.m. to indicate that one occupant was injured.
