With snowy conditions finally hitting Western Pennsylvania, municipalities such as Cranberry Township are springing into action to keep their roads safe and driveable.

Last week, Cranberry road crews got called out for the first time this season, clearing 4 inches of snow off the roads after prepping and readying all 27 plow trucks for the winter.

Kelly Mauer, Cranberry’s public works director, said the township has 6,500 tons of salt stored. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Butler County crews used 23,595 tons of salt and 73,695 gallons of brine last winter while maintaining 1,500 miles of road.

According to the National Weather Service, much of Butler County could see at least 1 to 3 inches of snow Saturday night into Sunday.
