A woman and boy were both arrested for felony marijuana possession following a weekend traffic stop in Butler.

Kimberly J. Schnur, 47, of Oakland Township was driving the car that was pulled over about 10:40 p.m. Friday for running a flashing red light at West New Castle Street and Fourth Avenue, city police said.

An officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle but none of the five occupants at first seemed to know anything about it.

Schnur, however, eventually acknowledged there was marijuana in the car, police said.

Officers seized a Ziploc bag containing 11.23 grams of the drug, according to court documents. The bag was between the driver's seat and center console.

When one of the passengers — a 16-year-old Oakland Township boy — got out of the car, police said they saw on his seat four individually packaged baggies containing suspected marijuana as well as a small digital scale.

The four baggies weighed a combined 14.42 grams. Police noted the scale appeared to have marijuana residue on it.

Police arrested Schnur and the boy, who they did not identify. A search of the teen allegedly turned up $422 in currency and a marijuana pipe.

Officers searched another passenger, Noah Hall, 21, of Butler, and found him with a plastic bag containing 4.67 grams of suspected marijuana.

At the station, documents said, Schnur told police “the marijuana found in the vehicle was hers.”

She was arraigned on felony charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy. She also was cited for failing to stop at a flashing red light.

She remains free on $20,000 bail while awaiting a preliminary hearing Monday.

Police charged the boy in Butler County juvenile court with felony possession of marijuana and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was later turned over to the custody of juvenile probation authorities.

The felony cases were filed, Butler police Deputy Chief David Adam said, because the amount of the marijuana combined with the way it was packaged and the presence of a scale were indicative of retail distribution.

Hall is charged by summons with possession of a small amount of marijuana, a misdemeanor.

The other two passengers — a 15-year-old Oakland Township girl and a 21-year-old Summit Township man — were not charged.
