DOYLESTOWN — The father of a suburban Philadelphia woman who faked her abduction and fled with her daughter to Disney World is facing charges for allegedly scuffling with cameramen outside the courtroom.

Sixty-six-year-old William Siner of Milton, Del. was charged Thursday with simple assault and disorderly conduct. Authorities say he attacked three TV cameramen on Aug. 27 after Bonnie Sweeten pleaded guilty to charges of identity theft and making false reports to police. The incident was captured on video.

Defense attorney Robert Mancini said Siner is a military veteran with an unblemished record. He quoted his client's wife as saying news crews had been outside their home for months.

Sweeten was sentenced to nine to 24 months in prison after admitting she called 911 on May 26 and said she and her daughter had been kidnapped by two black men. She still faces a federal theft investigation.

PITTSBURGH — Ethiopian runner Kassahun Kabiso wasn't the only winner of the revived Pittsburgh Marathon in May.A marketing report by the firm Forward Analytics says the race boosted the local economy because runners, visitors and others generated $21.6 million in spending. The race generated nearly $900,000 in state, 5city and county tax revenuesThe city canceled the race from 2004-2008 because of budget problems, but drew 10,500 runners on May 3.The race will be held again on May 2, 2010 with Dick's Sporting Goods as its title sponsor. Already 1,700 people have registered to run in the race.

HARRISBURG — The state Department of Health will provide free anti-radiation pills to people who live or work within 10 miles of Pennsylvania's nuclear power plants. The potassium iodide pills can partially protect the thyroid gland from radiation exposure if there is a nuclear accident.The pills, also known as KI tablets, will be distributed Tuesday through Thursday at sites across Pennsylvania. The pills come with instructions on when to take them.The state has five nuclear plants: Beaver Valley Power Station, Limerick Generating Station, Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, and Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station.
