Butler Senior High School student achieves Girl Scouts Award
Lily Maser, a senior at Butler Senior High School, achieved the Girl Scout Gold Award through the completion of a project she called the five senses of animal enrichment.
Lily has been a Girl Scout since first grade and belongs to Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania Troop 28843.
To complete her Gold Award project, Lily created a Facebook page that is still currently active and shows how to make enrichment activities for animals in captivity.
Lily worked with Living Treasures Wild Animal Park and the Butler YMCA to complete her project.
The Gold Award is the highest honor in Girl Scouting, awarded to seniors and ambassadors for completing a sustainable project that addresses a community issue. It requires over 80 hours of work and demonstrates leadership, commitment and problem-solving skills. The process involves training, creating a project proposal, completing the project and submitting a final report.
You can pick up one of her informational pamphlets at Living Treasures.
Lily is planning to major in secondary education at Slippery Rock University in the fall, with the goal of becoming a biology teacher.
