The Village Idiot vs. the Intelligent Doctor
Notice how it's only the men (or women who have been manipulated by men - not uncommon) who support Phil English's vote to deny funding to Planned Parenthood. This organization, which is not at all deceptive and is actually more focused on neo-natal care and maternal support than abortion, would not have to exist if our country simply smartened up and advocated sexual responsibility as a matter of policy. Note how its opponents use radical, inflammatory language like "murder" and "baby killers" in their highly charged expressions.
Phil English isn't stupid enough to think terminating a pregnancy is tantamount to murder, he's just smart enough to play on religious values to get votes. He's a hypocrite, just like the Catholic Church preaching abstinence and ignorance while molesting altar boys all the while. If men respected women and the act of intimacy like Jesus did, there wouldn't be any need for abortion. It's men driving the abortion industry, not women.
There are two very good books of the same title called "Misogyny", one by Jack Holland and the other by Prof. David Gilmore. Everyone who's so sure they know what's good for women and society should read both of these books. I suspect these anti-abortion men (and women) don't know what that word means, or even how to pronounce it. I challenge them to read these books. Until then, they have no standing to speak on this issue.
Men who revile women because they are the bearers of life - and are entitled to autonomy - are, ultimately, in the same category as wife beaters and rapists. The only position we men should take is to say that whether or not a person should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term is an issue ONLY for women of child-bearing age.
The men who liken abortion to murder are nowhere in sight when it comes to providing the resources for the lifelong commitment it takes to raise a child. But when that child isn't properly parented and becomes a menace to society, these same men are the first to demand the death penalty. So what's worse - a woman who knows she can't support a baby terminating HER pregnancy, or a society that contorts its jurisprudence to justify the actual, cold-blooded, premeditated murder of a living, breathing, viable human being?
I believe Gary Poole once wrote a letter stating that tractor trailers shouldn't have to obey yield signs. If so, that shows you just how rational he is, and how much real respect for life he has, now doesn't it! As with his opinion, he apparently thinks it's perfectly fine to disregard the larger order of things and ram your way through, no matter how many innocent bystanders get flattened, because having might makes right. There's your abortion opponent in a nutshell, if you'll pardon the pun.
These men who despise abortion and hate giving women the right to control their own lives and bodies are emotional windbags, more "hysterical" than any woman I've ever met. I'm so grateful I had a smart, free-thinking, devoted mother who knew that my brothers and sister and I would all be severely set back if she had followed through with an unplanned pregnancy that happened to her in her late thirties. I'm grateful that she loved us enough to protect and provide for us, so that we could all have a happy childhood, grow up stable and strong, go on to school, and become vibrant members of our communities. If she'd kept having babies as often as our jerk of a father wanted to have sex, we'd have been poverty stricken and malnourished. Thanks to my mother's bravery and excellent parenting, I'll always advocate sexual responsibility, and in the unfortunate case of unwanted pregnancy, a person's right to choose.
Until some people wise up and pipe down, I strongly encourage Dr. Adalja to keep writing his letters. We'll be better off with more opinions from him and less from Gary Poole the Fool.
