Abortion Issue Should be Decided by Women Only

Notice the men who write in to support Phil English's vote to deny funding to Planned Parenthood - an organization that would not have to exist if our country simply smartened up and advocated sexual responsibility as a matter of policy - use radical, inflammatory language like "murder" and "baby killers" in their highly charged expression.

Phil English isn't stupid enough to think terminating a pregnancy is tantamount to murder, he's just smart enough to play on religious values to get votes. If men respected women and the act of intimacy like Jesus did (as opposed to the modern Catholic Church, which has zero authority left on sexual morality), there wouldn't be any need for abortion. It's men who drive the abortion industry, not women.

There are two very good books of the same title called "Misogyny", one by Jack Holland and the other by Prof. David Gilmore. Everyone who's so sure they know what's good for women and society should read both of these books. I suspect these anti-abortion men (and women) don't know what that word means, or even how to pronounce it. I challenge them to read these books. Until then, they have no standing to speak on this issue.

The only position we men should take is to say that whether or not a person should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term is an issue ONLY for women of child-bearing age.

Those who liken abortion to murder are nowhere in sight when it comes to providing the resources for the lifelong commitment it takes to raise a child. But when that child isn't properly parented and becomes a menace to society, these same men are the first to demand the death penalty. So what's worse - a woman who knows she can't support a baby terminating HER pregnancy, or a society that contorts its jurisprudence to justify the actual, cold-blooded, premeditated murder of a living, breathing, viable human being?

I'm so grateful I had a smart, free-thinking, devoted mother who knew that my brothers and sister and I would all be severely set back if she had followed through with an unplanned pregnancy that happened to her in her late thirties. I'm grateful that she loved us enough to protect and provide for us, so that we could all have a happy childhood, grow up stable and strong, go on to school, and become vibrant members of our communities. If she'd kept having babies as often as our jerk of a father wanted to have sex, we'd have been poverty stricken and malnourished. Thanks to my mother's bravery and excellent parenting, I'll always advocate sexual responsibility, and in the unfortunate case of unwanted pregnancy, a person's right to choose.

I strongly encourage Dr. Adalja to keep writing his letters.
