Boyd E. Johnston Sr.
Boyd E. Johnston Sr., 74, of Slippery Rock Road, Grove City, died at 11:29 p.m. Monday at his home.
Born in Keister, Dec. 3, 1933, he was the son of Harry O. and Alice S. Kelly Johnston.
He retired in 1996 as a groundskeeper at Valley View Golf Course in Harrisville. He previously was a self-employed mechanic and truck driver.
Mr. Johnston attended the West Unity Community Church in Marion Township.
He was a former member of the Slippery Rock Fire Department and Fire Police.
He had owned stock car No. 555 and had raced at the Mercer Race Track. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his family and square dancing.
Surviving are his wife, Alice L. Rust Johnston, whom he married May 13, 1958; four daughters, Debra J. Lyons of Grove City, Esther "Tiny" Martin and her husband, James R., and Tammy S. Long and her husband, Donald, all of Harrisville, and Cindy L. Polkabla and her husband, Michael, of Grove City; two sons, Boyd E. Johsnton Jr. and his wife, Theresa, of Harrisville and Robert F. Johnston and his wife, Becky, of Grove City; 16 grandchildren; three great-children and one expected in a few months; and three sisters, Marg Colosimo of Slippery Rock, Cleora Lyons of Grove City and Vera Gumpp and her husband, Gene, of Slippery Rock.
A brother preceded him in death.
<B>JOHNSON </B>— Friends of Boyd E. Johnston Sr., who died Monday, June 2, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Jamison Funeral Home</B>, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Boyd Smith of West Unity Community Church officiating.
