Helen Kalan
Helen Louise Kalan, 83, of Mars, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Wednesday morning, Nov. 12, 2025, at 11:19 a.m.
Born in Butler on June 13, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Earl and Mildred L. Wolfe Bowser.
Helen graduated in 1960 from Butler Senior High School. She was a library assistant at Mars Public Library and a secretary at St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.
Helen was an avid reader and a talented designer and creator of handcrafted greeting cards and ceramic figurines for family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Surviving is her husband of 64 years, Robert J. Kalan Sr., whom she married March 21, 1961. Their lifelong deep love for each other began in 10th grade in high school.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Stephen Kalan and his wife, Leah, of Mars, Victoria Kalan Petrie and her husband, Brandon, of Pittsburgh, and Kevin Kalan, of Pittsburgh; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert L. Kalan Jr.; granddaughter, Erica Jean Kalan; and sisters, Shirley VanBuren and Dorothy Bowser.
KALAN — In accordance with her wishes, a private visitation and blessing service for Helen Louise Kalan, who died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, were held at MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.
She was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Butler.
