Francis Steighner
Francis “Fran” Steighner, 91, of Herman, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, after a life rich with family, faith and craftsmanship.
He was born Jan. 2, 1934, in Butler, to the late Harry and Margaret (Dadowski) Steighner. For many years, he worked at Pullman Standard until its closure, then completed his career as a skilled painter.
Fran was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the RC Men’s Club. He crafted beautiful woodworking projects, delighted in solving jigsaw puzzles as a dedicated dissectologist and cherished lively conversations with family and friends.
Fran is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Joan (Hutchison) Steighner; his children, Darlene Donoghue, Francis Steighner Jr., Sherry (Dave) Ackerlund and Joy (Brian) Loska; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a cherished extended family.
Along with his parents, Fran was preceded in death by his beloved two sisters, five brothers, and two grandchildren.
STEIGHNER — All arrangements for Francis “Fran” Steighner, who died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, were made through SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 821 Herman Road, Butler.
Burial will be held privately.
