PITTSBURGH — The family and friends of a two-year-old boy who was fatally mauled by wild African dogs at the Pittsburgh Zoo have set up a Christmas charity to honor his memory.

The parents of Maddox Derkosh originally requested the trucks instead of flowers because the boy loved to play with trucks and share them with his friends. More than 4,000 trucks will be given to Christmas charities for needy children.

Donations are being accepted at Pittsburgh fire stations, or at the William Slater II Funeral Home, 1650 Greentree Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15220.

AAA: Philly is tops for texting ticketsPHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia metropolitan region leads the state for the number of texting-while-driving citations written during the first six months of Pennsylvania’s new law.AAA mid-Atlantic said Friday that 796 tickets were issued across the state during that period. Of that total, 355 total tickets — nearly half — were written in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware or Montgomery County.Pennsylvania’s law against texting while driving took effect March 8 and carries a $50 fine.

Man arrested for farm machine DUI ALBION — Police say a Western Pennsylvania man was arrested for driving a farm machine while under the influence.An Erie newspaper reports the unidentified 57-year-old man was driving a combine Wednesday and hit a mailbox in Elk Creek Township. A combine is used to harvest crops.Police found the man in a bean field and determined that he was intoxicated.Authorities say the combine driver will face charges of DUI and hit and run.
