A Slippery Rock food cupboard accepted a $1,000 donation from its local Rotary chapter to help continue operations as the organization grows.

At the end of a weekly meeting on Nov. 3, Slippery Rock Rotary president Brad Smith presented Carol Lambert and Sylvia Walters, two coordinators from the Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard, with a $1,000 check.

Lambert explained at the meeting that Feed My Sheep serves about 250 families within the northern portion of Slippery Rock Area School District, which is up from around 125 families at Thanksgiving last year.

She said the cupboard has met needs through the help of local businesses and volunteers.

Walters said the cupboard also holds a free summer lunch program offering five days of meals for 11 weeks to around 30 total children. This past summer, the cupboard served 985 summer meals total.

The organization is located at 324 N. Main St. in the Slippery Rock Community Park and its food bank is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 3 p.m. and by appointment on Sundays. More information is available by calling the pantry at 724-421-5274.
