Skateboard art from around the nation to be displayed at art center
Frequent flyers of the Father Marinaro Skate Park may notice some colorfully-designed skateboards in the coming months, but before they hit the ramps, they will hit the walls of the Butler Art Center & Gallery.
The Butler Area Skatepark Association is having a skateboard art show Friday evening, Nov. 14, which will feature more than 30 boards that have been designed and painted by artists from around the country.
Sean Carcaise, owner of the DirtyRamen skate shop and vice president of the association, said he sent about 50 boards to people looking to enter the show. By Tuesday, he had gotten back about 30 of them, each painted with designs.
He said he expects to get a few more designed boards for the show. The boards will be raffled off at the show, and all money raised from it will be used to fund improvements to the Butler skate park.
“We got money from sponsorships, so the show is free for people to come to,” Carcaise said. “We want everyone to just come and check it out.”
The association formed earlier this year, with the goal of funding improvements to Father Marinaro Skate Park. It is a certified nonprofit, and its administrators plan for the association to continue advocating for the skate park, even after improvements are made there, and host events there for years to come.
The skateboard art show may also become a yearly event, because of the interest it generated around the nation.
“We got artists from all over the place,” Carcaise said.
The free art show begins at 6 p.m. Friday at the Butler Art Center & Gallery, 344 S. Main St. in Butler. For more information, visit butlerskate.org.
