Scoop looks to reverse pigskin prognostication problems
This season's been crazy enough to mess with my flight patterns.
Karns City knocks off Redbank Valley on the road, then bounces undefeated Clarion? Slippery Rock University gives up 21 points in four minutes? Moniteau begins the year with two disappointing losses only to look great while posting four wins in a row?
I'm flying up high because I can't figure out what's happening on some of these football fields down low.
But the eagle flies proud and I'm giving it another whirl:
Butler at Mt. Lebanon - To the Golden Tornado's credit, they haven't been going through the motions during practice despite being eliminated from the playoff chase. The Blue Devils have had their number, however, especially at home.
MT. LEBANON, 33-16Upper St. Clair at Seneca Valley -Forget about the Raiders sneaking up on an unsuspecting opponent here. The Panthers are coming off a 21-17 loss at North Hills that likely cost them the Quad North title. They'll be looking to take out their frustrations on somebody.
UPPER ST. CLAIR, 47-11Knoch at Indiana - This serves as an early playoff game for the Knights, who must win to stay alive. Indiana runs the option very well and will control the pace of this game, and the football, at home.
INDIANA, 21-12Karns City at Moniteau - Here's the game of the week. Two hit football teams, big-time rivals, collide to see which will stay in contention for a league title. The Warriors are big, physical and have numbers. Ultimately, that will be the difference.
MONITEAU, 29-12Riverside at Mars - Just like Knoch, Riverside needs a victory to keep its playoff hopes alive. Having to do so on the road at Mars is too tall a task. The Planets are hitting their stride at the right time.
MARS, 24-15Hickory at Slippery Rock - The Rockets have gotten over the hump the past couple of weeks and are playing at home, but Hickory is one of the stronger teams in the MCAC. Slippery Rock will put up a good fight, but will fall short.
HICKORY, 19-12Millersville at Slippery Rock University - The Rock had things under control at IUP before a missed field goal and three big plays turned the tide. SRU is pretty good for a 2-4 team and will demonstrate thatSaturday.
SRU, 28-14.Here's how I see other local games this weekend: Valley over Freeport, 28-15; Lakeview over Union, 20-8; Redbank Valley over A-C Valley, 40-12; Grove City over Mercer, 27-12; Laurel over Summit Academy, 33-10, and Washington & Jefferson over Grove City College, 41-11.
Last week: 9-4
Season: 60-23
