Jazz band heats up Succop

The Hot House Jazz Band will perform on Feb. 9 at the Succop Theatre at Butler County Community College.

BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College's Succop Theater presents the Hot House Jazz Band in concert at 8 p.m. Feb. 9.

This instrumental and vocal trio shares a passion for the tradition and cultures of jazz and has performed for audiences around the world.

Band members Eric Henry, Jim Smith and Paul Butler formed in 1978 as a group of college musicians performing at summer resorts.

Since then, they have been recognized by the U.S. State Department as members of the American Jazz Ambassadors Program and have recorded a live album at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Henry plays tuba and is also the band's founder and manager. He teaches tuba at Dickinson and Messiah Colleges and is the principal tubist for both the Harrisburg and Lancaster symphonies.

Smith plays the tenor guitar and sings for Hot House. He also performs with the rockabilly band, Trailer Park Trio, and is a soloist at Jack's Firehouse in Philadelphia.

Butler plays the clarinet and teaches world music at Immaculata College. He also plays with several other music groups and is the co-founder of Music for People.
