Detroit men accused of racketeering in Cranberry Twp. charged in Butler Twp.
Three Detroit men accused of committing fraud using Walmart Pay in Cranberry Township are facing similar charges in Butler Township.
Parys Kendell Warren, 24, Anthony Jordan Williams, 20, and Kevin Jaheim Morris, 23, were charged Thursday, Nov. 6, with one felony count each of theft, receiving stolen property, dealing in illegally obtained property, criminal conspiracy to engage in theft, criminal conspiracy to deal in illegally obtained property and criminal conspiracy to receive stolen property following a Sept. 21 incident.
Police said the three men entered the store and completed eight transactions totaling $515 between 11:35 and 11:45 a.m. using four separate credit cards.
Police said Walmart Pay is used by scanning a QR code at checkout connected to the payment method associated with the account, which usually is a credit card. Police said the men approached registers separately and made single transactions using Walmart Pay. The transactions included various items and prepaid gift cards.
The men were later arrested in Cranberry Township with nine cellphones in their possession.
The three men and an additional man not charged in Butler Township were charged in Cranberry Township on Sept. 18. The man allegedly made 44 transactions totaling $2,593.56 from their Walmart Pay accounts between 1 and 1:35 p.m. The group used 44 credit cards belonging to others for the transactions, police said.
Two additional felony racketeering charges were added for each of them in an Oct. 31 preliminary hearing in Cranberry Township. The three men are being held in Butler County Prison.
The next court appearance for the three men in the Cranberry Township case is scheduled for Dec. 16 in the Butler County Court of Common Pleas. Their preliminary hearing in Butler Township before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell were yet to be scheduled as of Friday.
