A Florida man continues to be held in Butler County Prison on allegations that he attempted to break into a Butler Township bank on Dec. 23, after a bail reduction request was denied in county court Monday.

Timothy P. Roose, 55, of Sunrise, Fla., is being held in the county facility on $20,000 bail, after being charged with felony attempted burglary, attempted criminal trespass and misdemeanor criminal mischief after an investigation into the incident at the Northwest Savings Bank, 151 Pittsburgh Road.

Bail was initially set at $75,000 at his preliminary arraignment, but was later reduced to the $20,000 at his preliminary hearing.

President Judge Thomas Doerr denied the further bail reduction request Monday.

Police said bank employees who arrived at work the morning of Dec. 23 discovered a hole smashed into the exterior bank wall, near the ATM and deposit box. Nothing was found to have been stolen.

Roose was identified through the investigation after he matched the suspect shown on surveillance footage trying to break into the closed bank using hand tools around 4:03 a.m. Dec. 23, and was driving a vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle used in the incident.

On Dec. 26, a patrol officer noticed the vehicle parked at the Super 8 hotel on Pittsburgh Road, directly diagonal from the bank, with a Florida registration. Roose, who was in town working as an electrician, was found to be the owner of that vehicle, according to the document.

Two days later, Roose was allegedly found sleeping in his car at GetGo on North Main Street Extension. The vehicle was impounded and police later found a 4-foot long Klein Tools conduit bender as well as clothing worn by the suspect during the incident, including gloves, neck covering, cap and a dark jacket, the affidavit states.

The gloves and cap still had what appeared to be parts of the insulation from the bank wall sticking to them, and the tool also had remnants of the wall in the pipe handle, police said.
