Montessori school open house to feature alumni from its 50 years of education
BUTLER TWP — Students both current and former will attend a 50th anniversary open house at Butler Montessori School on Sunday, Nov. 9.
Joanne DeCola, director of Butler Montessori School, said anyone is welcome to attend the open house, which will showcase the building the school moved into this year, which is behind a storage business on Shockey Lane.
While the open house is an opportunity for prospective students to check out the school that teaches preschool-aged children, DeCola said. She and the two teachers there also hope to see students who attended Butler Montessori over its 50 years.
“At the 40th anniversary we had a lot of returns,” DeCola said. “In 50 years, we’ve had a lot of people come through.”
The open house will showcase works created by students, which will be a demonstration of the school’s educational ideals, DeCola said. According to the school’s website, the school aims to teach children to make creative choices in their learning, while the classrooms and teachers offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process.
“The kids are coming to share their materials with all the visitors,” DeCola said.
The open house takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the school, 140 Shockey Lane in Butler Township.
