Some strange items from a strange season
Whether or not you believe Brett Favre sent "junk" mail to a former N.Y. Jets sideline reporter in 2008, Favre's reputation is tarnished.
Maybe there was just "Something About Jenn Sterger" that Favre couldn't resist.
Whether or not it was Favre in those MySpace posts, voicemails and lewd picture texts Sterger received two years ago, this latest NFL scandal is downright creepy.
I don't think it is a coincidence these photos surfaced a week before the Vikings and Favre were set to play the Jets on "Monday Night Football."
Call it the Fox Mulder in me, but it just seems kind of fishy.
Trust no one, I say.
If it's true, it's the latest black eye for a league that has been taking a lot of punches to the face.
NFL players behaving badly toward women is becoming a trend.
Within the last seven months, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault, several N.Y. Jets were accused of sexually harassing a reporter from a Mexican TV station and now the Favre fiasco.
How does the NFL respond to these brutish and sexist incidents?
It hires a Victoria Secret model as its new spokesperson.
The NFL is all about saving face these days. In one breath it cautions teams about concussions, then announces it wants to expand the chance of getting said concussions by adding two games to the season.
It says the owners are having a tough time financially, but it won't open the books to prove it.
Everything is a myth.
Here's some other NFL myths as we hit the quarter pole of this strange season:
•
NFL players need training camp: Favre has tendinitis in his elbow and no timing with his receivers, mainly because he missed training camp.Darrelle Revis has a balky hamstring largely because he missed training camp.•
Reggie Bush was a draft bust: Think the Saints don't need Bush? New Orleans is 1-2 since Bush hurt his knee. Besides Drew Brees, he might be the Saints offensive MVP.•
The Rams, Lions and Buccaneers are going to be bad: It was easy to pick on these bottom feeders before the season. But the NFL is tricky in this way. Bad teams one year have a way of turning things around drastically the next year — except for the Buffalo Bills.Tampa Bay is 3-1. St. Louis is 2-3. Detroit is 1-4, but should be 2-3.Those three teams combined to win six games last season.•
You have to run the ball well to win: Not this season.Six teams with a winning or a .500 record are in the bottom 10 in the league in rushing yardage per game.•
Dallas is going to be good: If by good you mean dysfunctional and losing games because of stupid fumbles and even more stupid TD celebrations, then, yes.How 'bout them Cryboys?Mike Kilroy is a staff writer for the Butler Eagle.
