Grove City man charged with more than 300 counts related to child sexual abuse material
A Grove City man has been charged with more than 300 counts related to child sexual abuse material, according to district court records.
Andrew Derrick Hines, 19, was charged Wednesday, Oct. 22, with 200 felony counts of disseminating photos of child sex acts, 84 felony counts of possessing child sexual abuse material, 50 misdemeanor counts of writing or printing obscene material including a minor, and four misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy, for a total of 338 charges.
Grove City police said they arrested Hines on Oct. 22 in relation to Children and Youth Services referrals from March 6 and May 9.
Police said the March 6 referral accused Hines of sending explicit photos to a 16-year-old boy in September 2024. The May 9 referral from a 13-year-old boy claimed Hines had been grooming and sending inappropriate messages to multiple juveniles.
Police interviewed Hines on May 10, where he denied interacting with any juveniles and communicating inappropriately with them, according to district court records.
He came back in the next day saying he was not honest in the previous interview and admitted to sending a photo of his genitalia under bed sheets to a person of unknown age, police said.
After Hines allowed police to search his phone, police said they found one folder containing 45 explicit photos and videos, a second folder containing 154 files of explicit content, and a third folder containing 78 photos and videos of sexually explicit content.
Police said the names of some of the photos suggest they were taken at least two years ago, and others were possibly from 2017. Several include the faces of suspected teenagers.
Police later obtained a search warrant for Hines’ phone. They found at least 12 more photos of two nude 15-year-old boys performing sexual acts. Police confirmed the photos were obtained through extortion.
Of the sexually explicit files, at least 22 videos depicted suspected juveniles nude participating in sexual acts. Police said 11 of the videos clearly contained juveniles.
Three of the videos also appeared to be taken without the subject’s knowledge, according to district court records. Police said one appeared to be taken using a hidden camera at a pool, and another was taken from under the wall of a stall in a public bathroom.
Police found 51 other photos containing child sexual abuse material in Hines’ possession, according to district court records.
Officers also found multiple instances of Hines apparently chatting with juveniles and engaging on platforms where child sexual abuse material is shared, according to district court records. Police said one conversation involved Hines discussing sexual preferences with a juvenile after being informed of the juvenile’s age.
Police also accused Hines of participating in more than 200 chat rooms on Telegram dedicated to selling child sexual abuse material. He was also involved in a group chat sharing sexual photos of three boys aged 15 to 17, according to district court records.
Hines was arraigned and released on a $100,000 bond, according to Grove City police. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Nov. 12 before District Judge Douglas Straub.
