Ashley Judd coming to Atlanta for film about football player with Down syndrome
ATLANTA — Ashley Judd is preparing to start filming in Atlanta for the dramatic film “21 Down” about a college football player with Down syndrome.
She will be acting and executive producing.
Preproduction is set to begin Nov. 18, with actual shooting scheduled to begin Jan. 12. The anticipated wrap date is Feb. 20, according to IATSE Local 479, the union that represents the bulk of crew members in the state.
A home base studio has not yet been identified.
The movie is inspired by the true story of Caden Cox, who made history by becoming the first person with Down syndrome to play and score in a college football game.
On Sept. 11, 2021, he kicked an extra point in a home game for Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio. “I was so happy when I made my first ball through the uprights,” Cox, an Ohio State Buckeyes fan, told The Special Olympics.
The producers are promoting the movie as “not just a sports drama but also at its heart a deeply moving story about family, perseverance and the fight for inclusion. The unwavering determination of Cox’s parents allowed their son, against all odds, to achieve his dream.”
In 2023, the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta created a display to honor Cox.
Kelsey Grammer, who is 70, welcomed his eighth child last week, the fourth such addition with third wife Kayte Walsh.
The “Frasier” alum — whose eldest child is 42 — shared the news during Monday’s episode of the “Pod Meets World” podcast.
Grammer and Walsh, 46, “just had our fourth one, so it just became eight kids,” he told hosts and “Boy Meets World” alumni Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle and Rider Strong.
“It was like three days ago,” continued Grammer. “Christopher that’s just joined the family.”
The Emmy winner joked about his expansive lineage and their many mothers, saying the kids “come in clusters.”
News of Christopher’s pending arrival broke in June, when People published photos of Grammer and Walsh, who appeared heavily pregnant at the time.
The couple notoriously took up when the actor was married to Camille Grammer, with the deterioration of their union immortalized on the inaugural season of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” Grammer — who has said he’s“not proud of the way” he and Walsh started off — shares daughter Mason, 24, and son Jude, 20, with Camille.
Grammer shares“Greek” actress Spencer, 42, with first wife Doreen Alderman and 33-year-old “Deadly Illusions” actress Kandace, better known as Greer Grammer, with ex-girlfriend Barrie Buckner.
In addition to Christopher, Grammer and Walsh share daughter Faith, 13, as well as sons Gabriel, 11, and James, 8.
Earlier this year, Grammer told People he“neglected a couple of the kids in my life, especially the first two” and was “trying to make up for a little of it now.”
Sia’s ongoing divorce has taken a nasty turn as the singer-songwriter has accused her estranged husband of being investigated for child porn, while he’s accused her of drug use in part of the couple’s battle for custody over their 1-year-old son.
Daniel Bernad is reportedly seeking sole custody of Somersault Wonder Bernad, claiming their son is in “serious and immediate danger,” according to new court documents obtained by TMZ.
Sia countered that the boy’s father cannot have sole custody because he’s already limited to monitored visits due to a child porn investigation.
In the documents, Bernad claims Sia’s struggles with “substance abuse and addiction” have made her an “unfit and unreliable parent” who’s incapable of caring for their son. He also accuses her of concealing a recent hospitalization and a positive test for sedatives and tranquilizers despite having no medical reason to take them.
“I am the only safe and reliable parent for our son. I am a doctor, young, healthy, and have no criminal history or drug or alcohol addiction issues,” he wrote in the filing.
Bernad is asking the singer be limited to two-hour monitored visits three times a week. He’s also seeking monthly child support of $77,245, claiming he’s currently unemployed and has“no income” after Sia “ceased all funding” of their joint company, Modern Medicine, in April.
He previously asked for more than $250,000 per month in spousal support.
Sia reportedly responded to the filing by saying the couple had agreed in August for Bernad to be limited to professionally monitored visits after she was informed he was being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department and Department of Children and Family Services over “illicit child pornography” allegedly found on his hard drive.
Bernad accused Sia, 49 of planting that purported evidence.
The“Chandelier” singer admitted in the documents that she struggled with addiction in the past but has been sober for more than six months. She said she has repeatedly agreed to regular drug testing.
“Dan’s attempt to weaponize my past sobriety journey… serves no legitimate purpose and is intended only to distort the facts and undermine my credibility,” she wrote.
Sia and Bernad tied the knot in May 2023 and quietly welcomed their son in March of last year. She filed for divorce in March of this year, citing irreconcilable differences.
