Lutz

Eda June Lutz, 87, formerly of North Bluff Street, died at 3 p.m. Friday at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif., after a short illness and battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She had been living in Marina del Rey, Calif.

Born Jan. 8, 1920, in Harrisville, Ohio, she was the daughter of Arthur and Sophia Kuttie.

A 1939 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Mount Pleasant, Ohio, she moved to Zelienople shortly after graduation and eventually settled in Butler, where she lived for the past 66 years, 47 of them at her home on Bluff Street.

Mrs. Lutz begun working as a waitress for the Butler Elks Lodge 170 in 1941, where she remained for 40 years. During World War II, she also worked at Armco's Butler Works in the shipping department.

In the fall of 1981, she went to work as a waitress for Natili North Restaurant on Main Street until her retirement in 1990, completing 50 years of service to the patrons of Butler. After her retirement, she frequently assisted caterers with private parties and events in the Butler area.

She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, a lifetime member and past president of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Butler Elks Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and the Eight and Forty organizations and past treasurer of the General Butler Vagabonds Parents Auxiliary.

She enjoyed volunteer work with the church and traveling. Her favorite travel destination was Hawaii.

Mrs. Lutz is survived by her son, William Ralph Lutz, 43, of Marina del Rey, with whom she had lived since December 2004. Mr. Lutz is vice president of finance, business development with Deluxe Digital Media Management Inc. in Los Angeles and a graduate of Butler High School, Boston University and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Lutz was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Ralph Lutz, who died Jan. 15, 1974, and whom she married in 1941. Her longtime companion, Alva E. Glasgow of Butler, also preceded Mrs. Lutz in death on Dec. 5, 2004.

North St. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman presiding.
