CLINTON TWP — Multiple fire departments responded to a fire at the Coherent facility, formerly known as II-VI, on Saxonburg Boulevard on Monday, Oct. 27.

According to Dave Rennick, assistant chief of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company, the fire began in, and was ultimately contained to, a single room in the building. The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m.

“It was basically under control for the most part when we arrived,” Rennick said. “The employees actually got a good knock on the fire with extinguishers.”

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation, according to Rennick.

The fire led to an evacuation of the building, and employees went to the parking lot as emergency crews placed fans throughout the building to disperse smoke.

No one was injured or required transport for medical attention as a result of the fire.

“The building was evacuated due to the nature of the fire, but I believe they were all placed back in the building after the fire,” Rennick said. “There was a smoke condition inside the building, but nothing serious.”

In addition to Saxonburg, the volunteer fire departments of Sarver and Buffalo Township also responded to the scene.
