BC3 VP honored for his work

Case Willoughby
Fall-to-fall retention up 7 percent

BUTLER TWP — A Butler County Community College vice president is among 17 educators from across the country to be honored by an international college educators association.

Dr. Case Willoughby, BC3 vice president for student affairs and enrollment management, was named as a Diamond Honoree by the Educational Leadership Foundation of ACPA: College Student Educator’s International.

Willoughby, who has been at BC3 for the last five years, has spent more than two decades working in student affairs, many of them at schools in New York.

At BC3, Willoughby has led a redesign of the college’s orientation process, including the launch of a springtime blog that is used to parcel out information to incoming students every couple weeks.

The blog also helps students think about what careers they want to pursue and which resources they want to take advantage of while at the school.

The college said Willoughby’s efforts have resulted in a 7 percent increase of fall-to-fall student retention rates (60 percent up from 53), and higher levels of student satisfaction in things like academic advising and counseling, Willoughby said.

“The best compliment is that faculty members are saying, ‘My students come to class having an idea of what they had to do,’” he said.

Nick Neupauer, BC3 president, credited Willoughby will bringing “a global perspective,” to the college, and called him “an expert scholar, superb presenter and excellent practitioner in his field.”

Willoughby holds a doctorate and masters degrees in higher education from Columbia University, a master’s degree in Hispanic civilization from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in Hispanic studies from Connecticut College.

He was recognized as a Diamond Honoree on March 28, at an event in Columbus, Ohio.
