Four candidates run for 3 seats in Callery election
Four candidates are campaigning for three open seats on Callery Borough Council in this November’s general election.
Three candidates — council President Rose Marie Wirtz, Crystal Huffman and Linda Wearing — are incumbent members of the seven-member council. One, Mary McIntyre, is a newcomer with no political experience. All four are competing for three open four-year seats.
Wirtz, who said she was born and raised in Callery, has served on borough council since 2002. Her experience working with Callery dates back to 1990, when she began serving as the borough secretary.
McIntyre described herself as a housewife with close family ties in the area. She said she attends almost every council meeting and was encouraged to run by others in the community.
Huffman and Wearing did not respond to requests for comment from the Butler Eagle.
According to the Butler County Bureau of Elections, there is a separate council position open in Callery for a two-year term. However, aside from write-ins, no names are listed on the ballot for the position.
