Blocked shot saves Butler's 32-31 win

Kylee Lewandowski's blocked shot at the buzzer preserved a 32-31 win for the Butler girls basketball team at Burrell Monday night.

Jenna Kunst tallied a double-double for the Golden Tornado (2-1) with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Julia Gibson added nine rebounds.

Butler, which held a slim 18-16 lead at halftime, hosts New Castle on Thursday.

Noah Pollock's 3-pointer with 30 seconds left in regulation tied Karns City with visiting Springdale on Monday.

The Gremlins then edged the Dynamos in overtime to earn a 45-43 victory.

Chandler Turner paced KC (2-1) with nine points and nine rebounds.

Hockey

A three-goal second period sparked Seneca Valley to a 6-3 win against Upper St. Clair at Ice Castle.

Six players scored for the Raiders — Nicholas Raible, Robert Sheils, Andrew Chiusano, Braden White, Bryce Korner and Matt Blazewick. SV received three assists from Giovanni Sarachine and two from White.

Dylan Sloat made 24 saves for the Raiders (7-4-1).

Freeport 6, Greensburg Salem 2 — Trailing 1-0 after one period, the Yellowjackets erupted for six goals over the next two periods.

Connor Hoffman scored twice for Freeport (4-5) while Alex Colflesh, Tanner Hill, Kyle Hazelett and Ryan Giori each had one goal.

Ben Drzemiecki contributed two assists and Greg Smith stopped 26 shots in net.

Wrestling

Mars' Alex Hornfeck took first place at 126 pounds at the Hickory Tournament over the weekend. He surrendered no points in four matches on his way to the championship, his second straight at the event.

The Planets had eight other wrestlers who placed. They included: 3rd place-Justin Petrilena (170), Max Aubrecht (220); 4th place-Noah Hunkele (106), Nick Schriver (195); 6th place-Jeff DeSantes (285); 8th place-Aidan Leshinsky (138), Mitch McMarlin (145), Isaiah Johnson (180).
