Butler woman charged with theft of barn equipment
A Butler woman is accused of burglary for allegedly breaking into her stepfather’s home and stealing barn equipment, police said.
Tasha Elaine Lutz, 35, was charged with one felony count each of burglary and criminal trespassing, and one misdemeanor count each of theft and trespass after she allegedly broke into the home and barn on Sept. 22.
According to a criminal complaint, the owner of the house received a text from his neighbor around 4:30 p.m. Sept. 22 saying Lutz, the owner’s stepdaughter, was at the residence riding a horse.
According to the complaint, the neighbor later told police she saw Lutz riding down the road and up the driveway on the homeowner’s horse. She also said Lutz was washing the horse.
The homeowner told police that Lutz is not allowed at the home. The homeowner returned to his residence on Sept. 22 and told Lutz to leave.
Lutz allegedly returned to the residence after police left. The homeowner later returned and noticed items in the kitchen, bathroom and attic were moved and knocked over, and a window in the attic was open. The owner said he believed Lutz used a rain barrel on the deck to climb onto the roof to get in through the attic window.
The homeowner said Lutz took two saddles, a lead rope, bridle equipment and two breast collars from his barn. The owner said he paid $700 and $300 for the saddles.
When police interviewed Lutz, she said all she did was ride the horse and clean the residence’s pool and did not take anything.
Police later discovered the stolen items in a shed behind Lutz’s apartment, according to the complaint.
Her preliminary hearing before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz has not yet been scheduled.
