Gen. McLane edges Pottsville for crown

HERSHEY— Winning a state title helped Andrew Astorino forget about any pain in his left ankle.

Astorino led General McLane's potent running attack with two second-half scores and made a key interception on defense, while the Lancers stopped Pottsville on fourth down late in the game in a 28-23 victory Friday to claim the PIAA Class AAA title.

Astorino scrambled from 20 yards out for a touchdown to give General McLane a 28-21 lead, and also scored on a 71-yard dash in the third quarter. On defense, the senior intercepted a Pottsville pass deep in General McLane territory late in the first half to thwart the Crimson Tide.

All those heroics came after Astorino turned the left ankle in the second quarter and was forced to leave the game for several plays as trainers taped up the foot.

"Fine," Astorino said with a grin after the game when asked about the ankle. "Never been better."

His play helped General McLane claim a win in their first title game appearance at Hersheypark Stadium.
