Elsie Jordan

Elsie M. Smitley Jordan, 94, of Jackson Center, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, following a brief illness.

Elsie was born Feb. 20, 1931, in West Sunbury, to Gilbert and Daisy (Pisor) Claypoole.

Her first husband, Raymond F. Smitley, preceded her in death in 1967, and her second husband, Leroy E. Jordan, preceded her in death in 1977.

She grew up in the Glades, between Hooker and West Sunbury. She was raised in the Protestant faith.

Elsie was a homemaker who raised her children and formerly cleaned houses for individuals.

Elsie is survived by four children, Pamela (Earl) Thoma, of Portersville, Raymond F. (Joyce) Smitley, of Mercer, and Douglas Smitley and Russell Smitley, both of Jackson Center; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nellie Shields.

In addition to her parents and both husbands, Elsie was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Sutton, Helen Roxberry Artman and Polly Stoughton; and two brothers, Marion “Bud” and Richard “Dick” Claypoole.

JORDAN — Visitation hours for Elsie M. Smitley Jordan, who died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Avenue, Grove City.

Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, West Sunbury.
