UP AND RUNNING — Jerry Cumberland checks his referral list after receiving a 911 call in December 1970 at the new County Emergency Communications Center in the Civil Defense Suite at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The elaborate control panel provided communication with fire companies and police units throughout the county, and the 911 emergency switchboard was at left.
