Jennings drills new well to increase water quality, quantity
A new well being drilled at Jennings Environmental Education Center should deliver better quality water and more of it than the current one.
Jennings park manager Wil Taylor said the new well was a project that was years in the making.
“We have been having significant issues with water,” Taylor said. “We run out of water during large events. We have to have excessive treatment of that water to make it potable to meet guidelines. So we are drilling a new well.”
Jennings, which is located in Brady Township, is not connected to a municipal water system, and depends on underground water. The new well will be significantly deeper than the current one, which will eventually be capped.
“(The current well) was drilled a long, long time ago. It’s deteriorating and it requires a lot of treatment,” Taylor said. “We’ll be capping off that well because the water quality is bad.“
Unlike the current well, the new well will also provide running water to the park’s maintenance facility.
