High school sports roundup: Mars’ Blake, Freeport’s DiSanti, Karns City’s Bell score twice in wins
Katie Blake tallied two goals to pace Mars girls soccer to a 3-0 win against host Gateway on Monday.
Liv Halliday added a score for the Planets (9-3, 5-2 WPIAL Section 1-3A).
Freeport 12, Valley 0 — Nia DiSanti scored twice, and Cece Schlegel recorded three assists while Alyssa Alcorn and Sophia Crawford shared the shutout for the Yellowjackets (11-1, 7-0 Section 2-2A).
Seneca Valley 3, Butler 0 — Karly Majeski scored twice for the Raiders (8-2-2, 5-0 Section 3-4A) while Cassie Leonard added a score.
Butler fell to 5-6-1 (0-5-1).
Mason Bell scored twice and Brock Dittman stopped 13 shots in Karns City’s 4-1 win against Sharpsville.
Ty McFarland and Alex Kredel also scored for the Gremlins. Aaron Wimer, Camden Slater and Davin Henry each contributed an assist.
Adi Novad’s 13 kills, three aces and two blocks highlighted Slippery Rock’s sweep of Lakeview.
Lexi Caldwell added 24 assists and 10 aces, Madison Romanovich eight kills for the Rockets, who won by scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-18.
Butler 3, West Middlesex 0 — Butler won by set scores of 25-12, 25-11, 25-21 as Raina Lewandowski led the Golden Tornado with 13 kills and five digs.
Ashlan Tosadori recorded nine kills, and Julia Mason distributed 25 assists.
A-C Valley 3, Karns City 0 — This win for the Falcons included 10 kills and four blocks from Maddy Dehart and four kills and five aces from Gianna Louise.
A-C Valley won by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-12.
Addison Fox tallied seven kills, five aces and 11 assists for the Gremlins.
Butler topped Hampton 3-2, with Laini Spohn and Lindsay Lipp winning for the Golden Tornado at No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively. Spohn’s victory came after dropping the first set to the Talbots’ Arianna Barbera, winning 1-6, 6-0, 8-6 (tiebreaker). Lipp won 6-4, 6-3.
Sophia Kingsley and Cassie Sklencar won in Doubles 1 play for Butler 7-5, 6-4.
