David E. Walter, 76, of Barkeyville Road, Pine Township, Mercer County, died of lung cancer at 11:39 p.m. Wednesday at his home after a six-month illness.

Born in Grove City, April 3, 1931, he was a son of Charles R. and Winifred McBride Walter.

He was a lifetime resident of the Grove City area and retired in 1993 from Cooper Energy Service, where he was a diesel erector for 38 years.

Mr. Walter was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Grove City.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Riddle Walter, whom he married March 30, 1955; two children, Janet Christoph and her husband, Chuck, of Broadlands, Va., and John Walter of Grove City; two sisters, Ruth Coulson and Jean E. Walter, both of Grove City; and two grandchildren, Michael Christoph, with the U.S. Navy, and his wife Jaime, of Milton, Fla., and Jennifer Christoph of Pullman, Wash.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis "Pete," Clyde and Charles "Bill" Walter; and two sisters, Florence Montgomery and Pauline Phipps.

<B>WALTER</B> — Friends of David E. Walter, who died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Patterson, a retired Methodist pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Mount Irwin Cemetery, Irwin Township, Venango County.
