College sports roundup: Slippery Rock women’s soccer opens PSAC play with win, coach moves up D2 wins list
Slippery Rock women’s soccer heads into the weekend 3-0 in PSAC West play after Wednesday’s 2-1 win over winless Clarion.
Miley Kariotis scored the winning goal for The Rock (3-2, 3-0) in the 83rd minute on an assist by Abby Paterline. Bailey McGee set up Marissa Salisbury’s first-half goal that make it 1-0.
SRU head coach Noreen Herlihy (308-208-62) is now in tied for 23rd in Division II women’s soccer victories all-time.
SRU faces IUP at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Butler grad Tori Stevenson scored a goal and tallied two first-half assists in Grove City women’s soccer’s 8-1 rout of Bethany to open Presidents’ Athletic Conference play.
Stevenson has two goals and two assists through seven games.
The Rock fell in five sets Wednesday at Clarion, losing by scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-17, 23-25, 15-8.
Emry Rumbaugh had 14 kills and two blocks for Slippery Rock (7-6, 0-1), Marley Annis added 13 kills, and Lauren VonderHaar added 11 kills and three blocks.
SRU hosts its home opener 2 p.m. Saturday against Shippensburg.
