Merryman

Harry Nelson Merryman, 84, of Main Street, Petrolia, formerly of Clarion County, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Saturday at the Chicora Medical Center, where he had lived since June 10, 2004.

He was born in Licking Township, Clarion County, Feb. 25, 1925, and was a son of the late John O. Merryman and Maude Kidd Merryman.

He was affiliated with the Petrolia Presbyterian Church and had attended the Licking Township schools in Clarion County.

He served honorably with the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Italy with the 350th Infantry 88 Division. Following his first tour of duty, he volunteered for 13 months of duty with the Army Reserve.

He enjoyed gardening, lawn care, hunting white-tail deer and woodworking.

He was first employed at Gallagher Tire Recapping in Callensburg and then retired after 20 years with the Pennsylvania Department of Transporation as a highway maintenance worker.

He married the former Margaret A. "Peg" Shakley on July 19, 1969, in the Petrolia Presbyterian Church. She survives along with a daughter, Georgie Ann Baughman and her husband, Donald E., of Polk; four grandchildren, Zachery Allen Baughman of Polk, Shanni Leigh Baughman of Polk, Brent A. Baughman of Franklin and Christopher C. Baughman and Amber Cochran, both of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.

The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Raymond, Thomas, Arthur, Edward, Lester, Howard and James Merryman; and a sister, Mrs. Genevieve Younkins.

<B>MERRYMAN</B> — Friends of Harry Nelson Merryman, who died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home </B>in Petrolia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Scott W. Bunting, pastor of the Petrolia Presbyterian Church, and Pastor Patricia Sawaya, chaplain of the Chicora Medical Center, will officiate.
