Winfield Township to support Eagle Scout project

WINFIELD TWP — Ethan Lauer, a local Boy Scout and Knoch School District student, is looking to bring disc golf to Winfield Township’s community park with financial support from the township itself.

At their monthly meeting on Thursday night, Sept. 25, the township board of supervisors voted to pledge some of their park budget in “an amount not to exceed $9,000” to support Lauer’s Eagle Scout project.

“We are going to pledge some of our park funds... so he can be assured to get his matching grant in order to conduct the whole project,” said township Supervisor Matthew Klabnik. “And then he's going to be working on getting donations to offset all that.”

According to Klabnik, Lauer’s proposed disc golf course consists of nine holes and is part of the master plan for the upgraded Winfield Township community park, which was first presented to the public in February 2024.

“Ethan has put together a budget of about $18,000 to do it,” Klabnik said. “He has a matching grant and he’s collecting money through hole sponsorships. We’re providing money to basically cover the difference. We’re pretty excited about this. This is an ambitious Eagle Scout project.”
