Miller Minutes: ‘Commemorate it with music’
Fall has its own soundtrack. Don’t believe me? Why are there songs called “Sweater Weather” or “‘Tis Autumn” dancing on the airwaves?
Since 2017, I have curated a playlist for myself to match the falling leaves. These songs can either directly reference autumn, or just remind me of walking in the chilly wind when I’m stuck inside at work. This becomes the back track to pumpkin patch scouring or corn maze fun at Freedom Farms, the trip to Cheeseman’s Fright Farm or an apple orchard.
Whatever you find yourself up to this fall, you need to commemorate it with music. So when you hear those songs later in life, you’ll find yourself reminiscing about falls in Butler County.
If you don’t know where to start, don’t worry, I’ve got the start of one here:
- “‘Tis Autumn,” by the Nat King Cole Trio
- “Autumn in New York,” by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
- “The Night We Met,” by Lord Huron
- “Sparks,” by Coldplay
- “Weren’t for the Wind,” by Ella Langley
- “To the Mountains,” by Lizzie McAlpine
- “Scarborough Fair,” by Simon and Garfunkel
- “Work Song,” by Hozier
- “Arthur’s Theme,” by Christopher Cross
- “Evermore,” by Taylor Swift
- “I’ll Be Seeing You,” by Billie Holiday
Feel free to play these tunes and add your own as you set off to any of the fall (or not-so-fall) events below!
