Forrest Gale Albaugh
Forrest Gale Albaugh, 76, of Saxonburg died Thursday at the Saxony Health Center in Saxonburg of complications from lung cancer.
Forrest was born Sept. 9, 1939, in Tionesta, to Forrest and Hazel (Brady) Albaugh. He was the oldest of six children.
Joining the U.S. Army at age 17, Forrest spent most of his military years in the motor pool in South Korea.
After retiring from his job as a machinist for the Billco Co. in Zelienople, Forrest, or Gale as he is most affectionately known, became involved in volunteer work at the Saxonburg VFW Post 7376, where he served as a maintenance person and officer for more than 30 years. He also volunteered extensively at the Saxonburg American Legion Post 683, serving on the military honor guard and especially helping with the monthly dinners. Forrest and his late wife Arlene, volunteered at the Saxonburg Library for many years, working at the desk and catering meals to the staff.
Forrest always grew an extraordinary garden, proudly canning his own tomatoes and sauerkraut each year. His family and friends will always remember him as a great cook, as someone who would fix and repair just about anything that had a motor and who would do anything for anyone in need.
He is survived by his children, Amanda (David) Ashbee of Downingtown, Pa., Forrest J. Albaugh of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and his grandchildren, Ava Rose Ashbee and David Ryan Ashbee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene (Zonarich) Albaugh, on Aug. 20, 2009.
