PIAA high school football Week 5: Final scores, highlights, recaps from Butler, Karns City, Mars, Knoch and more

Karns City kicks the ball during a football game against Karns City on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, at Moniteau High School. Matthew Brown/Butler Eagle

There are no big rivalry clashes this week, but there’s still plenty of intrigue heading into Week 5 of the 2025 PIAA football season.

Karns City is fresh off beating Moniteau and now takes on a District 9 power in Punxsutawney, while Mars and Butler are looking to rebound after their first losses of the season.

Just three undefeated teams remain now: Freeport, North Catholic and Union/A-C Valley.

The Eagle will be at four games this week — Westinghouse at Butler (John Enrietto), Punxsutawney at Karns City (Derek Pyda), Mars at Montour (Brendan Howe) and New Castle at Knoch (Will Pitts). 9:42 p.m.: Freeport puts icing on the cake against Burrell

Amos Glenn is near 200 yards tonight, according to social media reports, with 23 carries, 194 yards and four touchdowns after he broke off a 39-yard TD inside three minutes remaining to put the undefeated Yellowjackets up 34-7.

9:40 p.m.: Montour cuts into Mars lead, Seneca Valley improves to 2-3

The Spartans are hanging in the game in the final minutes, scoring on a 33-yard run to make it 29-19. Mars has called a timeout before the two-point conversion attempt.

Some final scores have begun to roll in (see above). The Raiders got an important second win, holding onto a 31-23 victory over Moon. Meanwhile, Karns City went from up 19-0 at half to losing 22-19, per D9andD19sports.com.

9:28 p.m.: Nicco Baggetta cuts into Butler deficit late

The Tornado QB rolled out of the pocket and into the end zone for a TD with a little more than five minutes left in the game to get Butler to within 24-14.

9:24 p.m.: Union/A-C Valley throws pick in final moments as stream cuts out

Andrew Kifer threw a potentially dagger interception, with the Falcon Knights leading 13-9 late, and it was returned deep into Union/A-C Valley territory. But the livestream from B94 Radio has cut out.

9:19 p.m.: Seneca Valley opens double-digit lead in search of 2nd win

Cayden Park burst in for a red-zone touchdown run, and Loebig hit Danny Drennan for his third TD pass of the night, this one 42 yards, to put the Raiders up on Moon 28-16. Raiders entered the night 1-3.

9:07 p.m.: Butler gives up second safety, Westinghouse in control

It appears the Golden Tornado’s strong offensive start to the season has been slowed the past two weeks. The Bulldogs forced the second safety of the night to make it 24-7.

But hold on ... the free kick return is stripped, Butler falls on it and the Tornado are back in business at midfield. Butler needs to score quick to get back in this.

9:06 p.m.: North Catholic wins race to 5-0

It’s becoming ho-hum for the Trojans, who routed McGuffey 63-0 to stay undefeated so far this season. North has scored 47-plus points in all five games, and 60-plus in three of them.

9:04 p.m.: Andrew Kifer makes THE play so far, puts U/ACV back up

Andrew Kifer is a freshman QB for the Falcon Knights. He made a veteran throw to senior Logan Skibinski on a big third-and-long touchdown pass. Kifer lobbed it up after shuffling left of the pocket, hitting Skibinski who beat a fallen defender and was wide open in the end zone. It’s 13-9 Falcon Knights now after the PAT.

9:02 p.m.: Parker Bish drives Union/A-C Valley down field

Parker Bish ripped off a big gain on the Falcon Knights’ ensuing drive after Ridgway took a 9-6 lead to get the team into the red zone. But a holding penalty on third-and-7 negated a would-be go-ahead touchdown.

8:59 p.m.: It’s a ballgame in Montour

Mars had been in control of this game all night, but suddenly it’s a one-score game as Montour breaks off a long touchdown run late in the third quarter to make it 19-13.

8:53 p.m.: Ridgway takes the lead over Union/A-C Valley

Owen Steger punched it in on first-and-goal early in the fourth quarter, capping a run-heavy, methodical drive by Ridgway for an 9-6 lead. It’s the team’s first lead since an early safety.

The Falcon Knights are trying to be the third Butler County team to start the year 5-0.

8:50 p.m.: Freeport, North Catholic drawing closer to 5-0 starts

North Catholic has once again cleared 60 points and has yet to allow anything to McGuffey. Freeport’s got a tighter game on its hands, leading Burrell 20-0 entering the fourth quarter, but is still well on its way to another win. That’s because Amos Glenn added a 24-yard TD in the opening minutes of the second half.

8:44 p.m.: Big night already for Ayden Yocum

Mars is in the third quarter, but here’s a first-half performance for you. Per reporter Brendan Howe, Mars’ lead running back had 230 yards and two TDs on 20 carries in the first two quarters of play.

8:32 p.m.: Union/A-C Valley, clinging to lead, gets INT

The Falcon Knights (4-0) opened the second half with a potentially important turnover while leading 6-2 over Ridgway. Freshman linebacker Micah Kindel stepped in front of a pass around midfield to give Union/A-C the ball.

8:21 p.m.: Defenses shining in Butler-Westinghouse game at half

It’s been a sloppy first half offensively in Butler Township. The Bulldogs lead narrowly 8-7, as both teams have less than 100 yards of offense, according to reporter John Enrietto. Westinghouse scored on a safety after Butler’s snap on a punt sailed into the back of the end zone. Then the Bulldogs followed a 48-yard free kick return with a TD. They almost had another on a 49-yard screen pass, but one of 10 Westinghouse penalties in the half negated it.

8:18 p.m.: Cole Johnston off to fast start as Karns City leads at half

While the Gremlins’ defense has forced three turnovers, it’s been QB Cole Johnston who has benefited offensively in the first half. Johnston has rushed for two touchdowns and thrown for another to help KC build a 19-0 lead, according to reporter Derek Pyda.

7:50 p.m.: Seneca Valley passing game gets cooking to take first lead

Andrew Loebig has thrown two early touchdowns to put the Raiders ahead 14-13 just a few minutes into the second quarter. His first was a short toss to TE Adam Gehm, which the Vanderbilt commit took 31 yards to pay dirt. Loebig followed that up with a 24-yard pass to Cayden Parker to take the lead.

7:45 p.m.: Mars up comfortably early after FG

The Planets lead Montour 16-0 midway through the second quarter. The Planets (3-1) have scored 17, 13 and 6 points the last three weeks, meaning the offense has now nearly matched its best performance during that stretch already tonight just 18-ish minutes into the game.

7:39 p.m.: New Castle extends lead over Knoch

A nice rollout left, and a lob to the back corner of the end zone, and New Castle is now ahead of the Knights 20-0 in the second quarter.

7:35 p.m.: Butler leads after 12 minutes on Deacon Simko TD

There have been two safeties so far tonight across Butler County; Ridgway got one against Union/A-C Valley (4-0), and Westinghouse has another against Butler (3-1). But the Golden Tornado have the early lead in their matchup, as Deacon Simko scored on a 47-yard touchdown catch to make it 7-2 after one quarter, according to reporter John Enrietto.

7:22 p.m.: North Catholic’s Schade extends lead over McGuffey

Butler County’s top running back so far this season punched it in from inside the 5-yard line to put the 4-0 Trojans up on McGuffey 21-0 with 5:10 left in the first quarter. Schade leads the county in rushing yards and touchdowns. According to the broadcast, he just had 43 of the drive’s 45 yards.

7:14 p.m.: Mars’ offense moving early, Knoch trails after opening kickoff

The livestream broadcast team for Mars-Montour noted Planets receiver Gabe Hein was in a walking boot earlier today, but he’s on the field for an offense that has moved the ball well on the ground early, despite a 0-0 score.

In other ealy action, winless Knoch finds itself in an early hole after giving up an 80-yard touchdown on a QB scramble on the opening play. The PAT was no good, making it 6-0 just 17 seconds in at that point, and now it’s midway through the first with the same score.
