Woman arrested in Butler Township linked to 2022 baby death in Clarion County

A Sewickley woman was arrested in Butler Township on Saturday, Sept. 13, in connection with charges against her husband of involuntary manslaughter for the death of a baby in Clarion County.

Kayla Jean Guerriero, 39, was charged with two felony counts of hindering prosecution following a Saturday traffic stop with her husband, Antonio Guerriero.

Antonio Guerriero, 32, of Bellevue, and Tunnell Pauline Hinderliter, 34, of Rimersburg, were charged Sept. 5 with two felony counts each of child endangerment and involuntary manslaughter following the 2022 death of a five-month-old baby in Clarion County.

Police were dispatched Jan. 15, 2022, to the Clarion Hospital emergency room and spoke with a doctor who treated the baby.

Police said the baby had bruising on the left side of its forehead and left cheek, a discolored abdomen, sunken eyes with dark circles underneath, broken blood vessels in the whites of its eyes, and what appeared to be blood near the genital area.

Police conducted interviews with medical professionals and the parents — Antonio Guerriero and Hinderliter.

In an autopsy conducted Jan. 18, 2022, police said the doctor was concerned about the baby’s weight relative to its age. Police said the baby weighed about 12.2 pounds, which is below the first percentile for weight-to-age ratios.

Additional records showed the baby had been seen by doctors twice since it was initially discharged from the hospital after birth. The most recent appointment was Aug. 13, 2021 — about five months before the baby’s death.

There were two appointments scheduled after that date that were canceled or missed, police said.

Police searched the home where the baby lived and found a lack of food for children and baby formula. Police said they observed fecal matter on the walls of the residence. Police seized one baby bottle and found one container of powdered baby formula in the home.

Police viewed EBT and WIC records for Guerriero and Hinderliter and found about 13 containers of formula had been purchased for the baby. The most recent purchase was from September 2021 — about 15 weeks before the baby’s death.

Police issued warrants for Antonio Guerriero on Sept. 5, 2025.

On Sept. 10, Ohio Township police in Allegheny County stopped Kayla Guerriero. Police said Guerriero knew about her husband’s warrant and had seen him Sept. 9 but not on Sept. 10, police said.

On Sept. 13, state police stopped Guerriero and found both Antonio and Kayla Guerriero in the vehicle. Police said Kayla Guerriero had been with her husband since the night of Sept. 11.

Hinderliter’s and Antonio Guerriero’s preliminary hearings are scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Sept. 23 before District Judge Timothy Schill. They’re being held in Clarion County Prison on $100,000 bail.

Kayla Guerriero’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Sept. 25 before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.
