Jackson Township supervisors give initial approval for new storage units
JACKSON TWP — Residents in southern Butler County looking to clear some clutter will soon have a new option.
During a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 18, supervisors gave conditional use approval for self-storage units to be built in Jackson’s Pointe Commerce Park near the Sunoco Gas Station along Route 19.
Developer Marcellino Manilla, of the Manilla Group, said 655 individual storage units will be built inside several one-story buildings. The largest units are planned to be 10 feet by 30 feet.
“There will not be any backup on Route 19 because we are going to enter from the rear on the private entrance,” Manilla said.
He also mentioned the property will include “aesthetically pleasing” landscaping in the front of the property along Route 19 and a fence that passersby will not be able to see through.
“You’ll probably see a large sign and a fence,” he said. “Other than that, you won’t see anything until you enter the facility. These facilities are pretty high-tech nowadays, so they’re very secure.”
As for stormwater runoff, Manilla said the future units will be built using the stormwater management plan from the Buncher Company, the Pittsburgh-based commercial real estate firm that owns Jackson’s Pointe Commerce Park.
“The facility can’t work efficiently if the run-off is not there,” Manilla added. “You can’t have a buildup of water in front of these because they’re garage doors.”
In coming months, Manilla will have to present land development plans to the township and gain approval from supervisors before any construction can begin.
