Richard Fowler
Richard D. “Dick,” or “Ted,” Fowler, 86, formerly of Butler and Chicora, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, in Ormond Beach, Fla.
He was born June 6, 1939, in Rimersburg, Pa. Richard was the son of the late Coyle and Doris Fowler.
He grew up in Western Pennsylvania and earned an Associate of Science degree from Penn State University. From 1961 to 1966, he served in the U.S. Navy with NAVAIR Squadron VA-75 — the “Sunday Punchers” — aboard the USS Independence (CV-62) and USS Enterprise (CVN-65), participating in deployments during both the Cuban missile crisis and the Vietnam War.
After his military service, Richard returned to Armco. Richard also continued his commitment to helping others as a founding member of the Unionville Fire Department’s dive rescue team. He was affectionately called “Mr. Fix-It,” always ready with a tool and a solution.
Richard’s faith was a guiding force throughout his life. He was an active member of Chicora Alliance Church in Pennsylvania and later Providence Church in Ormond Beach. Together with his wife, Brenda Lee Fowler, he supported couples through Marriage Encounter and Pre-Cana ministries. He and his wife were also members of The Gideons International.
He enjoyed outdoor pursuits including golfing, hunting, trapping and gardening. His humor and love for sharing jokes brought joy to those around him. Above all, he treasured time spent with family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Brenda Lee Fowler; sons, Brian Fowler (Lori), Eric Fowler and Christopher Fowler (Emina); brother, Barry Fowler (Sharon); grandchildren, Krissandra Helch (Gary), Nathaniel Fowler (Julie), Collin Fowler (Mikala), Melea Siddall (Jared), Breanna Sheasley (Duane), Marah Fowler and Jordan Fowler; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carla Bosko; and granddaughter, Minah Joy Fowler.
